Kate Marshall “Nevada’s Taxpayer Watchdog” Files Paperwork for Congress

Nevada State Treasurer Kate Marshall officially files for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District

Reno, NV - Today, Nevada State Treasurer Kate Marshall filed formal paperwork to run for Congress in Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.

"Congress needs to put Nevada families first. I'll work every day to bring jobs to northern Nevada, control runaway spending and make government perform for Nevadans and not special interests. That's what I have done in Carson City and that's what I'll do in Washington.

Known as Nevada's "Taxpayer Watchdog," Marshall has brought common sense solutions to government, earning a reputation for cutting government waste and spearheading initiatives that help middle class families. She is widely credited for saving taxpayer money by uncovering and eliminating no bid contracts and off-the-books accounts that were robbing taxpayers and draining the state's economy.

Marshall also led the fight to help keep Nevadans in their homes, successfully bringing the public and private sectors together on a joint project to refinance mortgages for Nevada families who were facing foreclosure.

Prior to being elected Treasurer, Marshall served in the U. S. Department of Justice Anti-Trust Division where she received the Antitrust Division's Outstanding Contribution Award.  Marshall then served as the Senior Deputy Attorney General for Nevada, working to prevent price gouging at the gas pump, protecting Nevada small businesses and prosecuting white-collar criminals.

"I'm supporting Kate because she has always been an advocate for seniors," said Janice Ayres, President of the Nevada Senior Corps Association.  "I think she would be a refreshing change in Washington and an asset to all Nevadans."

Kate Marshall became Nevada's 22nd State Treasurer in 2006.  Marshall, a mother of two daughters– Anna and Molly – resides in Reno.
