Democratic State Treasurer Kate Marshall of Reno, her party's nominee for the open seat in Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, opened her campaign headquarters today by giving a short speech then putting the estimated 75 volunteers there to work.

Reno-Gazette Journal - Marshall gets 117 out of 122 Democratic Party votes

State Treasurer Kate Marshall of Reno won a landslide victory Saturday in gaining the nomination of Nevada Democrats for the special election for the open seat in the 2nd U.S. House District.

Marshall, who has been elected twice to statewide office as treasurer, won 117 of a possible 122 votes from the party's Central Committee. Retired Washoe County principal Jacques Maye was second with five votes. Rex Ricks of Reno received no votes.

Nevada News Bureau - Gov. Sandoval Signs Bill Aimed At Generating More Money For Schools By Investing In Economic Diversity

CARSON CITY – A bill allowing the state Treasurer to invest up to $50 million in education trust funds to support economic diversification efforts and generate more money for public schools was signed into law today by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Concerns had been expressed about the legality of Senate Bill 75 after it had been amended in the Senate, but Treasurer Kate Marshall said today the final version of the measure restored the original language.

Carson City, Nev. —State Treasurer Kate Marshall said today that she is very pleased that the 2011 Legislature approved Gov. Sandoval's request to provide continuing support for the Gov. Guinn Millennium Scholarship program (GGMS). Gov. Sandoval’s Budget Request included a one-time $10 million infusion, plus the continuation of the revenue stream that supports the program: 40% of the state’s annual Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement proceeds and a $7.6 million transfer from the Treasurer's Office Unclaimed Property Division.

Las Vegas Sun - State Treasurer Kate Marshall jumps into U.S. House race

CARSON CITY – Kate Marshall, now in her second term as state treasurer, has jumped into the wide-open race for the open 2nd Congressional District seat to succeed Republican Dean Heller, who was named to the Senate. Marshall, a Democrat, will join at least five other candidates in the Sept. 13 special election.

Nevada News Bureau - Nevada Officials Pleased With Sandoval’s Funding Of Millennium Scholarship

CARSON CITY – State officials said today they are pleased that Gov. Brian Sandoval has proposed continuing the Guinn Millennium Scholarship program in his budget, including a one-time infusion of $10 million from the general fund to keep it solvent through 2016.

“I was pleased to see that,” said Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford, D-Las Vegas, in a budget hearing today.
