A Campaign for Nevadans
We have had a steady stream of volunteers coming to our office wanting to help out. Nevadans are fired up, and they have every reason to be. Nevadans want jobs, to challenge business as usual in Washington, and they want their Social Security and Medicare protected. Those issues are important to me: my parents taught me at a very early age the value of a dollar, and right now Nevadans are suffering because of widespread joblessness in our state. Families are struggling to find work and put food on the table, and times are tough.
That’s why job creation will be my number one priority in Congress. We will continue reaching out to voters as the race continues to hear from you. What is most important to you? What do you believe is the most pressing issue facing our country and our state? This election will give you a unique opportunity to voice your opinion in 2011. Contact me. Race to the Finish
I am overwhelmed by the positive support I have received in just the last week from voters across Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District. Nevadans are fired up because they know the stakes couldn’t be higher. Right now, lawmakers in Congress are foolishly considering slashing Social Security and Medicare in order to continue tax breaks for the wealthy.
Tax breaks for Big Oil and corporate jets? Cuts to programs that seniors have paid for their entire lives? Those are the wrong priorities and those certainly aren’t my priorities. I will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare: the middle class is struggling and it would be wrong to target them to make the rich, richer.
There is no doubt that we need to balance the budget, but we have to do it responsibly. I have a proven record of saving Nevadans money the right way. I renegotiated contracts with banks and saved Nevadans millions, I improved college savings and scholarship programs for students, and I added money to the state coffers during the worst fiscal crisis our country has seen since the Great Depression. In fact, I outperformed benchmarks and made money for Nevada every quarter. Fiscal responsibility is not a partisan issue, it’s a pocketbook issue, and I have the experience and steady hand to get our country’s finances back in order.
The second Congressional District in Nevada is geographically large, and it has more Republicans than Democrats. However, I have been elected statewide twice, I have been competitive in the North, and I have won heavily populated areas in the district. Most importantly, as we have seen over the last few months, Democrats and Independents are energized and excited to make their voices heard (by the way, congratulations Representatives Hochul and Hahn!).
We’ve hit the ground running and we will continue working hard until Election Day. Follow me on Twitter (here) and Facebook (here)! Now is the time to turn CD2 blue!
Nevada’s Families are My # 1 Priority
I grew up in a middle class family that was no stranger to economic hardship. My parents worked hard to put food on table, and at a young age, they taught me the importance of hard work, determination and the value of a dollar. I have carried these lessons with me my entire life.
I became a public servant to help the working families of Nevada and that's what I will do in Congress. In my role as State Treasurer, I have repeatedly held the line for Nevada’s families: I have made millions of dollars for Nevada taxpayers through sound investments, eliminated millions of dollars in government waste, made higher education more affordable through college savings plans and prepaid tuition programs, and successfully pushed legislation to create desperately needed jobs for Nevadans.
Despite our nation facing the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, I was able to add money to the state coffers every single quarter with even-handed financial management and sound investments. As Treasurer, I stood up for working families and seniors in Nevada, and I will continue to fight for them in Congress by protecting their Medicare, Social Security and creating jobs for the Silver State.
This election isn't about Republicans or Democrats, this election is about Nevadans. Nevadans need jobs, and they need a fighter to protect their Medicare and Social Security-- and that's exactly what I'll do in Congress. While Wall Street and Big Oil are making record profits, Congress is foolishly considering balancing the budget on the backs of our seniors and hard working families, but I'm going to fight to stop them. Nevadans earned those benefits and we can't let anyone take them away.

Kate For Nevada
I'm Nevada State Treasurer Kate Marshall and I'm running as a Democrat in the special election for Nevada's 2nd Congressional seat. The special election is September 13, 2011 and it can be the second lean Republican seat Democrats can take back this year. My Republican opponent is Mark Amodei and he is currently running a very extremist TV ad against President Obama. David Nir of Daily Kos calls it the "nutbag Mark Amodei ad."
Nev. GOP candidate raises specter of Chinese takeover
Help me send a message to the right-wing Republicans in Congress that they are out of touch with main stream America. Right now we need a meaningful jobs bill to get Americans back to work, not more hot air empty rhetoric. We can remind Republicans that Medicare means seniors have a safety net they can rely on because they have earned it! We owe that to our parents and grandparents, and in Congress I’ll fight to make sure that Medicare and Social Security are kept intact.
This Republican Congress just won't pass a jobs bill, but they voted against ending subsidies to oil companies who continue to make record profits. And they want to slash Medicare & Social Security. We can do so much better than that. As Nevada's Treasurer, I have a record of protecting our tax dollars, standing up to big Wall Street banks who manipulate the system and take advantage of hard working Americans, and prioritizing college savings programs to develop the workforce of tomorrow. In Congress I will focus on the things we care about: education, affordable health care and jobs.
We can win this seat with your help. This is the first opportunity in a Presidential swing state to show the Republicans that hope is alive and we aren't going to let them beat us.
P.S. Check out this video that highlights the reckless views of my opponent.
