Veterans

Kate has pledged to stand with veterans to protect their VA benefits.  

As Treasurer, she fought for legislation that was successfully passed to safeguard military artifacts that come into Nevada's Unclaimed Property division until the rightful owners our surviving family members are able to claim them.   

Kate also created a college savings matching funds program with USAA to help make obtaining a college degree for returning veterans easier and more affordable. 

Track Record of Fiscal Discipline

As Treasurer, Kate Marshall has a tried and true record of reducing spending and eliminating waste. She protected Nevadans' money through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and even registered a large net gain for her state. In Washington – just as she has done in Nevada – Kate will value every dollar, institute pay as you go rules, and demand benchmarks and milestones to lower our federal deficit.

In Congress, Kate will refuse a pay raise until the budget is balanced, bottom line.   She will cut subsidies to the big oil companies and banking conglomerates forcing Congress to focus on Main Street, not Wall Street.

Job Creation

Getting Nevada back to work is Kate's top priority. Kate believes we can do this by reinvesting in the backbone of our state's economy--small businesses, and by creating an economic climate that will bring more businesses with good paying, permanent jobs to Nevada. Kate will work tirelessly to help make Nevada competitive in the new global economy through workforce development and new investment in industries such as renewable energy.

Small Businesses

Supporting Nevada's small businesses is critical for our state's economy. Kate will focus on helping our state's many entrepreneurs grow their businesses and create good paying jobs for Nevadans, just as she has done throughout her career in public service.

In Congress Kate will work to create tax credits to allow businesses to reinvest in their workforce, not punish them for expanding with outdated taxes and red tape.  No one will be a bigger advocate for small businesses, especially when it comes to helping businesses to secure much needed capital. Kate will incentivize the banks to lend by creating special small business loans.  She will also work to eliminate excess and redundant regulations that can stand in the way our small businesses' success.

Seniors

Unfortunately some members of Congress want to dismantle our seniors' Medicare and cut their Social Security, choosing big insurance companies and Wall Street over our golden generation. Kate will fight to keep their safety nets in place because they have earned them through a lifetime of hard work and financial contributions.

Kate believes that we must not, and cannot, end Medicare for our seniors and she will stand up to anyone who tries. America's seniors have earned their Medicare and Social Security and Kate will not let Congress balance the budget on the backs of our senior citizens. Kate is committed to working with all levels of government to ensure that these critical programs are strong for future generations as well.

Accountability & Integrity in Government

Kate Marshall eliminated wasteful spending in Carson City and cleaned up Nevada's state government. In her first acts in office, Kate streamlined budgeting, commissioned an external audit of the Treasurer's office and cut wasteful spending. She rid the office of no-bid contracts and off the books deals to protect the taxpayers' hard earned dollars.

In Washington Kate will use her experience to continue to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are not taken for granted, but rather that they are spent in a transparent and accountable manner.  While most politicians are looking to spend your tax dollars, Kate has made a career out of making money for taxpayers and protecting their money.

Education

Kate strongly believes that education builds the foundation for a successful life and career. As Treasurer, Kate has fought to make education more affordable for all families no matter their income level, and in Congress she will continue to make accessible and affordable education a priority.

Treasurer Marshall has increased access to higher education by initiating the U-gift and Silver State Matching Grant programs to provide greater opportunities for families to start and contribute to college savings plans.  Kate also administers and advocates for the Millennium Scholarship Program, which has helped to double the amount of students attending Nevada’s colleges and universities.

Environment & Conservation

Kate Marshall will be a tireless advocate protecting Nevada's natural treasures in Congress. She will fight to ensure that Nevadans can enjoy our state's unique and pristine outdoors for generations to come.  Kate understands that the preservation of our state's natural beauty and resources has important environmental and health benefits, but also that Nevada's natural wonders are crucial for our state's tourism-based economy.   Kate will make sure that this critical pillar of our state's economy remains intact.

Hunting & Fishing

Kate believes that each state should be able to regulate hunting and fishing as they see fit. She believes we should continue to help bolster wildlife in northern Nevada, and supports the right of law-abiding Nevadans to bear arms.
